1886 LEATHER TRUNK WITH NAILHEAD INTIALS AND PROVENANCE



Inscribed by Cara Lena Cooper and Mary Lena Watson on November 25, 1886 this precious box held their dolls and clothing. The inscriptions are as follows:

Left top: Cara Lena Cooper
Thanksgiving, 20 minutes past 5 p.m.
November 25, 1886

Center: December 31, 1893-the old trunk was unpacked for
Cara and I took part in an old fashioned play today.
We have put the dolls back and laughed over them(?)
We will add……….(?)
Shortest doll is named Sadie after my long lost
Friend Sadie…….(?)

We will now again sign our
Respective names for tomorrow
Cara goes back to school
